Tanpopo Ramen Auckland – Tonkotsu Shio Raman

Tanpopo Ramen Auckland – Tonkotsu Shio Raman

This Ramen joint opened around 2004 in Auckland when I was studying there. It was one of the first Ramen restaurant in Auckland that served Tonkotsu flavour.
TANPOPO is named from Jyuzo Itami’s famous film Tampopo (Dandelion). This film is a classic and started a bit of a cult following of Ramen freaks around the world.

So does ths Ramen restaurant live up to legacy of the film

Noodle 2/5
Less than average.
Soup 2/5
Too oily. I don’t really feel like sipping this soup. Kind makes you feel heavy afterwards.Noodle 2/5
Less than average.Atmosphere 2/5
Kitchen doesn’t look so clean.
Floor is dark and black.
Toilet is nice. Decorated with surf boards and dolphins which is owners hobby.Price 3/5
11NZD for this these days is I guess average

Unfortunatelly It doesn’t live up to the name of great film Tampopo. I know the owner and they are nice people but quality of ramen is less than international industry standard.
Apparently they opened another restaurant near Howick. Apparently Chinese people are loving this joint.

This restaurant would go bankrupt in Japan for sure.
